Viking Hour and Focus

Viking Hour:

Each day, Mount Horeb Middle School begins with a 25 minute advisory time known as Viking Period.  This time is dedicated to building a positive school culture and climate, supporting students social and emotional needs, building rapport, and setting individual student goals.

Focus:

A 22-minute period each day designed to help students build skills by focusing on what they need. Our main focus is independent reading. Some students will be receiving more focused instruction to support their reading or math skills during this time.

Research suggests that there are many benefits to voluminous reading, including but not limited to: improved academic achievement, increased background knowledge, increased vocabulary exposure, and improved writing.
